AHMEDABAD: Ramesh Vankar, stationmaster of the Samalaya station, the scene of the Sabarmati Express accident on April 21, who was placed under suspension has been arrested by the railway police early on Thursday. According to the Railway Protection Force chief, Vadodara, Anupamsinh Gehlot, the police had evidence that Mr. Vankar was aware about the signal failure but failed to take any action. The voice recorder at the Pratapnagar control room in Vadodara had recorded the voice of the person in charge of the Godhra-Vadodara section asking the Samalaya stationmaster about the signal failure and the need for ``piloting'' the train at dead slow speed. The three lower level staff at the Samalaya ``B'' cabin, who were arrested earlier, had also told the police that they had informed the stationmaster about the signal failure.
