ERODE: The police have arrested three persons including a Government driver, on the charge of pelting with stones a Block Development Officer. Those arrested were: Muthuvel, Thangaraj and Uthirapathy (driver). The police said that the Bhavani Panchayat Union Commissioner (Block Development Officer), Murugesan (56) was attacked by Muthuvel and Thangaraj while he was waiting at a bus stop two days back. He has been admitted to the Government Hospital in Bhavani. The villagers caught hold of the duo and handed them over to the police. The police said Mr. Murugesan had issued a memo to Uthirapathy for unauthorised absence on April 19. Uthirapathy wanted to go on leave on that day to participate in the local body election, which the BDO refused to grant. The attack was to avenge the issuance of memo, the police said. All the accused have been remanded.
