MANAMA: Protesters in around 15 cities have called for end to the rule by the Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak, and the lifting of emergency laws imposed over two-decades ago. Organisers of the agitation said that Egyptian police arrested around 75 persons. The Kifaya (enough) movement had given the call for the protests. Its representatives later said that all but two of its activists were released. In Cairo, more than 1,000 policemen in riot gear prevented about 300 protesters from reaching the Supreme Court. Around 1,000 persons took part in a demonstration in the southern city of Luxor. Police reportedly beat up protesters with batons, in order to disperse them in some cities, including Suez and Benha. The Kifaya activists have been holding a series of protests since December.
