`No misuse of power during byelection'

Staff Reporter

KANCHEEPURAM: The Finance Minister, C. Ponnaiyan, on Thursday brushed aside the allegations of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader, Vaiko, that AIADMK Ministers had "misused" their power during the Kancheepuram by-election.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Ponnaiyan pointed out that Ministers too were party members. "In that capacity alone we have come here to canvass for our party candidate. Police protection has not been provided to us."

Asserting that the AIADMK had not violated the model code of conduct, Mr. Ponnaiyan asked Mr. Vaiko whether the Election Commission had banned the participation of Ministers in the campaign.
