GUNTUR: The Solidarity committee of struggle against the Pulichintala Project has given a call to people to oppose the project as it does not serve Palnadu region of Guntur district and inundates large areas in Guntur and Nalgonda districts. At a press conference here on Thursday, the All-India People's Resistance Forum State Committee member, K. Ravi Chandra, said the Government had not bothered to revise the Environmental Impact Assessment report and it had not considered alternatives suggested by several experts. Several affected persons could not attend the Environmental Public Hearing conducted by the district administration at Bellamkonda in Guntur district on November 4, he said and asked officials not to restrict entry of people in the name of security. Ministers need not be invited, he pointed out, as it was not a Government function to highlight policies and achievements.
`Keep out politicians'
An atmosphere must be created that was conducive to make people come to the public hearing at Piduguralla on April 30, he opined. The administration must stop politicians from making it a farce, as a number of Congress leaders from Atchempeta and Bellamkonda had deliberately spoken for the project.
