KURNOOL: The president of Rayalaseema Hakkula Ikya Vedika, T.G. Venkatesh, has said the people of Rayalaseema had a definite share in the development witnessed by Hyderabad city after formation of Andhra Pradesh. Talking to reporters here on Thursday, Mr. Venkatesh who reacted sharply to the criticism of them by the Telengana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leaders said a huge amount of resources were pumped to Hyderabad city from different parts of the State for development considering it the capital of Telugu speaking people.
Kurnool suffered
Hyderabad city might have had the legacy of 400 years but transferred only mud-walled and brick-walled structures to unified Andhra. Mr. Venkatesh said Kurnool suffered development because of shifting of the capital to Hyderabad. Mr. Venkatesh claimed that they were not against formation of Telangana State or breaking of the State but Rayalaseema should be compensated for the loss it suffered. He said the Ikya Vedika was ready for a debate to prove its point at any forum. The utter neglect of the sentiments of Rayalaseema people and brashness with which the TRS leaders spoke would not be acceptable. If any debate had to take place on backwardness, Rayalaseema region would stand first. Mr. Venkatesh said a meeting of intellectuals was convened at Hyderabad on May 5 to discuss the future course of action in the wake of the stand of the TRS and future of Rayalaseema if the State was split. He said the Vedika would fight a legal battle if Telengana was accorded statehood without compensating Rayalaseema.
