Taking into account the growing crowds reaching the spot and the subsequent safety of the remains, the district administration had stopped the excavation work and intimated the Arhceological Survey of India officials to do further study. District Magistrate R S Verma told UNI here that the ancient remains have been seized and decision regarding continuance of excavations on the mound and further research would be done by the ASI officials. The historians at the Allahabad University have also been intimated of the remains, Mr Verma added. While Prof Tripathi claimed the remains to be belonging to the mediveal period, another renowned historian Dr G C Shukla said that further excavations in the area could lead to the discovery of a township of Kushan period. Dr Shukla also said that Shak dynasty ruler Ibrahim Shaki's kingdom spanned from Pratapgarh to Dalmau and the remains could also belong to the period of his reign. - UNI
