HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party on Thursday advised the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to stop `Rajiv nagara baata' and `palle baata' and launch an "agriculture market baata" to know and solve the problems faced by chilli and other growers. Addressing a press conference, the TDP leaders -- Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, Kadiam Srihari and Syed Yousuf Ali -- said the Government was not doing anything to ameliorate the suffering of chilli growers. The Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) virtually remained a non- starter. Farmers were not getting the price they wanted to cover the input costs. With the Government fixing a meagre Rs. 2,300 per quintal under MIS, there was a crash in the market and traders were offering only Rs. 1,600 per quintal. Sixty per cent of the stock brought by the farmers under MIS had been rejected on one pretext or the other. Only ten quintals was being bought from each farmer. Mr. Srihari said 11 committees had been constituted for the coming Mahanadu from May 27 to 29. The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by the party president, N. Chandrababu Naidu. These committees include the ones for studying the policy document, prepare draft political resolution and take care of the arrangements. He refused to disclose the names of members of the committees, saying there were quite a few changes. None of the committees was headed by a chairman.
