`Help us fight extremism'
Special Correspondent
ONGOLE:
The Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, has appealed to all political parties, intellectuals and human rights organisations to help the Government check the menace of extremism and maintain law and order effectively.
Speaking to newsmen here on Thursday, he condemned the attack on the Superintendent of Police, Mahesh Chandra Laddha, by the Maoists here on Wednesday. He asked the Maoists to understand that they could not come to power through violence. He complimented Mr. Laddha for effectively dealing with naxalites and maintaining law and order in the district and expressed happiness that he escaped the attack unhurt. Asked whether the Government would re-impose the ban on the CPI (Maoist), Mr. Jana Reddy said: "If you think that ban will help solve the problem, the Government will impose it immediately." He said the Government was in favour of continuing its two-pronged strategy - continuing peace talks with the Maoists on the one hand and enforcing law and order effectively on the other to prevent them from moving with arms.
