Novell enters new arena

Anand Parthasarathy

Choice of two operating environments

BANGALORE: Novell has jumped into the enterprise computing ring with two matched products for server and desktop that are squarely aimed at the head of so-called `proprietary' solutions, even while pleasing the crowd of `Open Source' fans.

Announcing the global and national availability of `Novell Open Enterperise Server' and `Novel Linux Desktop 9', here on Thursday, Onward Novell Software's Marketing Director, Ashit J. Panjwani, stressed the ease of migration from other environments like Unix, Solaris or WindowsNT for enterprises who wanted to embrace the `open' ideal for pragmatic reasons like cost and security. The new Open Enterprise Server offered corporates the choice of two alternative operating environments: Novell's own Netware or the Linux system it is able to offer thanks to its 2004 acquisition of the SUSE Linux flavour.
