KASARAGOD: The need for giving equal opportunity and importance to Kannada and Malayalam was highlighted before the Assembly Committee on Official Languages that held its sitting at the Collectorate conference hall here this morning. Acknowledging the views of the people of the district, having a multi-lingual population of Kannada and Malayalam, the committee chairman, K.V. Thomas, promised that the committee would consider public sentiments and submit its report to the Government accordingly. The committee held discussions and reviewed the use of Malayalam language by the revenue, police, panchayat, rural development, cooperation and social welfare departments.
