RAIPUR: The main accused in the murder of Chhattisgarh NCP treasurer Ram Avtar Jaggi was on Saturday produced in a local court which remanded him to CBI custody till May 9.

The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Raipur, R.B. Ghore remanded Chaman Singh, who was arrested in Guwahati and brought here on a transit remand, to CBI custody for recovery of weapons and identification of conspirators in the crime.

CBI counsel told the court that Singh was directly involved in the killing and his custody was important to recover the weapon and the vehicle used for the killing, besides identification of the persons involved in the conspiracy to kill Jaggi. Singh would also be put through a lie-detector test at New Delhi, CBI sources said.

Yahaya Dhebar, Abhay Goel, Firoz Siddique and Shivendra were arrested on Tuesday last in connection with Jaggi's muder on June 4, 2003 and remanded to 14 days CBI custody.

Dhebar is the elder brother of former state NSUI president Ejaj Dhebar and Goel is the former State unit Youth Congress treasurer.

Both are close to the family of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, the sources said.

CBI had recently arrested DSP Amrik Singh Gill on charge of hiding evidence.
