CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government will set up two new fish seed farms at Ottu in Sirsa and Mundari in Kaithal to promote pisciculture in the State. The Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Fisheries, H.C. Disodia, said here on Thursday that with this the number of Fish Seed Farms in the State would rise to 15. He further said that an ambitious programme of fish culture had been formulated at a cost of Rs. 25 crores which would be implemented in the next five years. Steps would be taken to add different varieties of fish and setting up of fish care centres at district headquarters for the production of healthy fish.
Generating jobs
Mr. Disodia said at present over 17,000 youngsters were engaged in this profession and in the next five years 15,000 more would be given employment. He claimed that Haryana was the second largest producer of fish in the country. The area under fish production would be increased from 8,882 hectares to 14,500 hectares and the production would go up from 42,000 tonnes to 75,000 tonnes. New fish markets would be set up at Ambala, Hisar, Bahadurgarh and Gurgaon, he added. A national level aqua culture research and training centre was being set up at a cost of Rs. 1.60 crore at Hisar where farmers would be imparted training by experts.
