ANANTAPUR: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will introduce Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) phone services at four more centres, Anantapur, Dharmavaram, Hindupur and Madakasira, in the district by May-end. Talking to newspersons here on Thursday the General Manager of Anantapur Telecom District of BSNL, Md. Nayeemuddin, stated that about 3,700 WLL connections were given at Tadipatri, Kadiri, Kanaganapalli, Uravakonda and Kanekal, where the facility had already been provided. A few more centres would be provided with the facility by August-end, he said. In all, the BSNL presently had 1.02 lakh b-fone (land line) connections, 38,000 CellOne and Excel customers and 7,600 public call offices, besides WLL phones, he noted. They had already introduced six new tariff packages for b-fones in Anantapur town with the call rates from 90 paise to Rs. 1.20 per unit. The new plans would have higher monthly rental charges and higher free calls. The DataOne broadband services would be introduced at Anantapur soon, through which the Internet users could utilise high-speed Internet with affordable rates. After Anantapur, the facility would be extended to Tadipatri, Hindupur and Prashanti Nilayam. They were also planning to set up more customer service centres in addition to the existing 16, the GM stated. For improving the quality of cell services the BSNL was planning to set up 45 more towers in the district during 2005-06. For the b-fones, all exchanges in rural areas would be upgraded to provide all facilities available in towns.
