CUDDAPAH: Trafficking in women is alarming in Cuddapah, Anantapur and Chittoor districts and the State topped the country in this aspect, the Cuddapah SP, V.C. Sajjanar, said on Thursday. At a meeting organised by the Regional Network Against Trafficking in Women here, the SP said a village-level survey was taken up in nine mandals in Rayachoti and Lakkireddipalle constituencies, from where women were lured into brothel houses in Mumbai, Pune and Delhi. Education level, health care, landholding, population and natural resources were being enlisted in the survey, he said. Developing Poolakunta hamlet in Galiveedu mandal was planned and special programmes would be taken up in villages where flesh trade was rampant, Mr. Sajjanar stated. The network was striving to prevent trafficking in women by enlightening parents, and checking sexual abuse and exploitation of women, he added. Those lured into flesh trade faced physical and mental torture and ended up as HIV/AIDS affected, and such exploitation of girls under 18 years of age was a crime, the Regional Network coordinator, Anupama Sajjanar, said. The SP released a poster against trafficking.
