Anchal hooch tragedy: verdict on May 3

KOLLAM: The verdict in the Anchal hooch tragedy case in which six persons lost their lives will be delivered by the Kollam Additional Sessions Court-11 on May 3. The verdict comes 12 years after the incident occurred. Trial in the case was completed before the court on Tuesday. The tragedy took place in 1993. Hooch was purchased and consumed by the victims from an ayurveda pharmacy at Yeram, near Anchal.

They had purchased the hooch from the pharmacy between August 29 and September 2. 165 other people who had purchased hooch were hospitalised, most of them at the Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram.

Five persons figure as accused in the case. Of them, one died in the incident. The remaining four are out on bail. The trial began at the court in June last year. 264 witnesses were examined.
