Loan limit to farmers up

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has proposed to increase the limit on loans to farmers through the produce marketing scheme from Rs 5 lakhs to Rs 10 lakhs under priority sector lending.

In order to make an assessment of customer satisfaction on credit delivery in rural areas by banks, it has proposed to conduct a survey with the help of an `outside agency'.

The annual policy statement released by the RBI Governor, Y. V. Reddy, on Thursday said the report of an expert group, set up by the central bank to formulate a strategy for increasing investment in agriculture, was expected by the end of May.
