MYSORE: The All-India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) here will conduct a two-day workshop on dance therapy from Friday for speech therapists, special educators, parents of children with special needs etc. The workshop will be held at the AIISH Gymkhana and will be conducted by renowned dance therapist Tripura Kashyap from Bangalore. In a release, the AIISH said that the workshop will focus on methods and techniques of movement therapy and the theoretical segment of the workshop will focus on historical evolution, techniques, principles, goals and current status of dance therapy. The practical segment will consist of demonstration of body preparation exercises, movement activities, game and daily techniques for dance therapy. The AIISH said movement activities such as warm-up, mirroring, dancing, body rhythm, hand gestures etc will result in children becoming more aware of their bodies and they develop a deeper understanding of themselves. It helps in developing, thinking, memorising, sequencing, imitation, body coordination, spatial awareness among others. Dancing will also help children gain self-esteem and confidence and help them to be creative and imaginative. Venkoba Rao, Chairman, Mythri Trust, and President, Lions Ikon, will be the chief guest.
