Administrative nod for Nizamsagar works

Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD: The Government has given administrative sanction to Nizamsagar modernisation works that include repairs to the project structure, sluice gates, bund and canal strengthening.

The Government has asked the authorities concerned to finalise tenders in a month and complete works in one year, according to sources in the Irrigation Department.

Works will be taken up with an outlay of Rs. 20.46 crores. The Government, earlier, sanctioned Rs. 14 crores for the modernisation of the Pocharam medium irrigation project.

The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, during his visit to Gandi Masanipet in Yellareddy mandal on Wednesday, referred to the two projects, saying his Government was giving utmost importance to augmentation of irrigation sources in the district.

The Nizamsagar, having a capacity of 17.80 tmcft, was last filled in 2000. Farming under the project was crippled following lack of rainfall and water in the reservoir.
