MADURAI: : The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday dismissed a revision application moved by former Minister for Tourism N. Suresh Rajan thereby vacating an interim stay imposed on a corruption case pending against him and his parents. Dismissing the application moved against an order of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Kanyakumari declining to summon few documents pertaining to the case, Justice M. Chockalingam observed, "The lower court order need not be set aside, since it does not suffer from any illegality." The Bench, on September 27, 2004, had stayed the proceedings under the Prevention of Corruption Act pending before the Magistrate until the disposal of revision application. The Vigilance and Anti-corruption sleuths in Nagercoil, on March 14, 2002, registered the case against the Minister and five other family members but subsequently two accused were dropped and a charge sheet was laid against Mr. Rajan and his parents alone. According to the prosecution, the Minister, during his tenure from 1996 to 2001, had accumulated wealth to the tune of Rs. 17, 20, 976 disproportionate to his known sources of income.
