TIRUCHI: : Canara Bank's total business in Tamil Nadu during 2004-05 touched Rs. 18,535 crores, recording growth in deposits and advances. The bank's General Manager, Chennai Circle, George Joseph told The Hindu here that the total deposits as of March this year touched Rs. 10,657 crores, while the advances rose to Rs. 7,878 crores. Mr. George Joseph said Rs.4,520 crores was given as credit to priority sectors such as agriculture, small-scale industries, education etc. during the previous year. For the current financial year, the bank had projected a growth of 15 per cent under deposits and 24 per cent under advances with the overall total business projected at Rs.21,950 crores. The deposits and advances of the bank in the Tiruchi region had grown by around 12 per cent and 28 per cent respectively. The total business in the Tiruchi region, covering six districts and Karaikal and having 55 branches, during the previous financial year was Rs.1,450 crores with deposits alone being Rs. 935 crores. Inaugurating an ATM of the Bank's UDC Kattur branch here recently, Mr. Joseph said the bank's centenary celebrations would be organised for one year starting from July. This is the fifth ATM of the bank in Tiruchi city and 141st in State.
