Swoop on video piracy continues

TIRUCHI: : In two different raids at Perambalur and Tiruchi, sleuths of the Video Piracy Cell arrested two persons and confiscated hundreds of pirated CDs of new movies.

K. Pandian (24) of Kamarajar Cross, Perambalur, was arrested and 360 CDs were seized from him. In another operation, N. Manohar (33) was arrested at the Burma Bazaar and found possessing 260 unlicensed audio CDs and a copy writer, all worth Rs.50,000.

Body found

The charred body of an unidentified youth was reportedly found near Kumulur in Siruganur limits on Thursday. The Siruganur police are investigating.

In another incident, the decomposed body of a youth was found by the side of a bush near RPS ground in Tiruverumbur limits. A case has been registered, the police said.

Held with ganja

A ruling party functionary belonging to the Lalgudi Panchayat Union, A. Shahul Hameed (40) was reportedly arrested for alleged possession of 250 grams of ganja.

The Lalgudi police have registered a case.

Power shutdown

There will be no power supply in the following areas from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 30 owing to maintenance work in the K. Sathanur sub-station, according to a TNEB press release:

K. K. Nagar, EB Colony, SMES Colony north, Krishnamoorthy nagar, Sundar nagar, Iyappa nagar, LIC colony, Palani nagar, Mullai nagar, Thenral nagar, Vasantha nagar, Wireless road, Sempattu, Kuditheru, Bharathi nagar, Kamarajar nagar, Santhosh nagar, Tiruvalarchipatti, Ananth nagar, K. Sathanur, Oaliyur, Vadukapatti, Panjapur, Ramachandra nagar, Edamalaipattipudur, RMS Colony, State Bank Colony, Bharathi Min nagar, Gandhi nagar and Simco colony.

Local holiday

A local holiday has been declared for Tiruchi district on May 6 in view of the Chithirai car festival of the Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple.

All government offices and educational institutions will remain closed in the district on the day and will function on May 21 in lieu of the festival holiday, according to a release from the Collector, V. Pandian.

However, the district Treasury and all sub-treasuries would function on May 6 with skeleton staff, the release added.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur reservoir stood at 53.07 feet today. The inflow was 185 cusecs and the discharge 800 cusecs.
