BSNL to sell products through franchisees from May 1

`Telecom Points' to begin sales from May 1 across State

GUNTUR: The public sector telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will sell all its products through 106 franchisees all over Andhra Pradesh from May 1 to expand its marketing network in the face of stiff competition from private operators. Customers will not be required to visit the telecom offices any more.

The BSNL has 57 dealers for CellOne products in the State so far, a few of whom began selling other products of the company from April 1, but from May 1 another 49 franchisees would sell applications for landline phones and receive forms with deposit amount.

The showrooms -- Telecom Points -- will book post-paid cellular connections, landline, WLL phone connections (Tarang), sell starter packs for pre-paid cellular connections, re-charge coupons, Sancharnet Cards for Internet connection, and Web Phone cards.

Bids closed

On Friday, BSNL closed the bids for the 49 new ones for which there was stiff competition from all cities. Of these, 49 seven would be opened in Hyderabad, two in Visakhapatnam, one each in Vijayawada and Machilipatnam, Tenali, Sattenapalli and Bapatla in Guntur district.

Each franchisee would be required to open at least 10 sub-franchisees in his geographical area of operation. and no poaching would be allowed in other areas. Guntur city has two franchisees at Chandana Enterprises, Lakshmipuram Road, and Tejaswi Enterprises, Arundelpet and two more at Narsaraopet and Piduguralla (Mahalakshmi Enterprises).

The BSNL is also contemplating giving these franchisees the responsibility of collection of bill amounts, but it could take some more time before a decision on this was taken.
