BANGALORE: The National Alliance of People's Movements (NAPM) has condemned the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) Council's decision to ban protest demonstrations and public meetings on the premises of its head office. In a press release, the NAPM coordinator, C. Balakrishnan, has appealed to the BMP to withdraw the resolution and restore "democratic rights" of citizens. "The resolution sounds a death knell to democracy and democratic rights of the people as enshrined in the Constitution. Are we leading to a fascist State?," he asked. Mr. Balakrishnan has appealed to all democratic and peoples' organisations, groups and individuals to together raise their voice against the move of the BMP.
