This Day That Age
The Egyptian Premier, Col. Gamal Abdel Nasser, speaking at a reception held in his honour in New Delhi on April 28 said that the friendship between India and Egypt was of a long-standing nature. The treaty of friendship between the two countries signed a few weeks ago was a symbol of this friendship. Col. Nasser also inaugurated on the occasion the Indo-Egyptian Friendship Society. Prime Minister Nehru, who was present at the function, made special mention of the role played by Col. Nasser at the recent Asian-African Conference at Bandung and said the tact and understanding he showed there helped them reach a satisfactory conclusion of the proceedings of one of the sub-committees which discussed controversial and difficult issues. Dr. Zakir Hussain, President of the Friendship Society, spoke of the age-old ties of friendship between India and Egypt and said these relations were based on "no economic exploitation or political domination of each other." In the present times also India and Egypt could cooperate for building up a happy, peaceful Asia and Africa, a vision of which had been seen at Bandung.
