A great disappointment

The Opposition's boycott of Parliament is a great disappointment to the people. It is a shame on the largest democracy of the world. It is the Opposition's responsibility to act as a watchdog in Parliament. By continuing to boycott the proceedings on the smallest of pretexts, it is only exposing its inefficiency to deal with the affairs of the Government.

J. Shourie Ranjana,
Madurai, T.N.

The real essence of parliamentary democracy lies in the Opposition criticising the Government. The British believe that the Prime Minister knows the Leader of the Opposition more than he knows his wife. A government that neglects the opposition does so at its own peril.

P.V.K. Durai Murugan,
Chennai
