TIRUNELVELI: : The Fisheries College and Research Institute, Tuticorin, has adopted the tank inside the Swamy Nellaiyappar - Gandhimathi Ambal Temple, here to maintain it biologically by stocking fishes in it. The tank, spread over an area of 0.17 hectare, has been stocked with 3,500 fingerlings of rohu, mrigal, common carp, red tilapia and common tilapia with the prime objective of cleaning the tank biologically. The FCRI will scientifically maintain the tank's water quality and keep the fishes free from diseases. Besides cleaning the tank in a natural way, the fishes would also attract more devotees to the tank, the officials here said. The Head, Department of Physiology, Tirunelveli Medical College, D. Suryanarayanan, will be the local coordinator under whose directions the works will be carried out. The Head, Department of Aquaculture, FCRI, G. Sanjeeviraj, and the Associate Professor of the same department, T. Francis, would provide technical expertise.
