STRANGE STRUCTURE: Curious on-lookers coming out from a cellar found at C.S.M street, Kancheepuram. Photo: A. Muralitharan
KANCHEEPURAM: Chairman Swaminatha Mudaliar Street in the town became the cynosure of all eyes on Friday after a cellar like structure was found at an open site in the street. It all began around 9 a.m. when a group of construction workers started digging the open site for laying the foundation for a house. Three of them removed a granite slab from the ground only to find a four-foot hole. At the same time, their colleagues digging the ground at a few feet away from them also found a gapping hole after removing a granite slab. Later, one worker entered the hole, from one side and came out through the other gap, which indicated the presence of a cellar like structure. Hundreds of people converged at the site to have a look at the subterraneous room. As the onlookers started entering the cellar like structure, one of them is said to have found a small `avudaiyar' (ie. the base of sivalingam). This was denied by the owner of the site.
