VELLORE: Three strangers waylaid two brothers proceeding to their house in Nookkambadi village, about seven km from Tiruvannamalai in a motorcycle, and robbed them of Rs.2.33 lakhs in cash being carried in the vehicle at Rettai Eri Avalurpet Road in Mangalam police station limits on Thursday night. When one of them resisted the attempt by the strangers he was stabbed. He died on way to hospital. According to the police, when Jagannathan (40), a senior treatment supervisor in the Government T.B. Hospital, Tiruvannamalai and his brother, Manikandan (29), who was a Public Works Department contractor, were returning to their house after collecting from the Tiruvannamalai PWD office a sum of Rs.2.33 lakhs, towards partial payment of the contract amount due to Mr.Manikandan for desilting the tank in the village. The brothers who lost balance and fell down took to their heels. When one of the strangers opened the side box in the motorcycle where they had kept the money, they returned to the spot and resisted the attempt of the strangers to rob the money. One of them stabbed Jagannathan on his chest. Manikandan took Jagannathan to the government hospital, Tiruvannamalai, but the latter died on the way.
