CHENNAI: The national carrier of Sultanate of Oman, Oman Air, is keen on investing in airport infrastructure projects in India. It is already catering to four Indian destinations Chennai, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Mumbai and will expand its operations to New Delhi and Hyderabad from June 1. Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Air, Abdulrahaman Al Busaidy, said: ``If we are given an opportunity, we will be willing to participate in the airport infrastructure projects in India.'' Commending India's ``open sky policy'' and its liberalised approach to encourage private airlines to expand, he said that as the only public share holding airline in West Asia, ``we would be interested to invest in infrastructure projects in the aviation sector in India'' as the Mumbai and New Delhi airports were to be modernised. Oman Air is now operating 10 services a week to Mumbai, daily to Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram, five flights a week to Kochi, with a fleet of six Boeing-737-800 and four ATRs.
Services augmented
``We have been given operating rights on Wednesday by the Indian Government to fly tri-weekly services to Hyderabad and four times a week to New Delhi, he said. The airline was keen on introducing services to Bangalore, Kozhikode, and Tiruchi. The five-times a week service to Kochi would be made a daily service. Two more services would be added to the Mumbai sector, making it 12 services a week from 10 now.
