NAGAPATTINAM: The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has recognised the legal services rendered to tsunami victims in Nagapattinam district by a group of advocates from Madurai on behalf of the Madurai Legal Services Authority. A.Sahaya Philomin Raj, advocate of Madurai bench of Madras High Court and coordinator of Tsunami Legal Service for NALSA, told The Hindu on Friday that the petitions forwarded by the Madurai advocates to NALSA were directed to the Nagai district forum to be placed before the Lok Adalat. He said that the NALSA was taking efforts to organise a series of meetings to record the grievances of tsunami victims belonging to various categories. The NALSA in coordination with SNEHA, one of the local NGOs, had organised a grievance hearing for destitute and widows on Wednesday in which 64 women from different communities participated and registered their grievances, he added. He said that Mrs Jesurathinam, convenor of SNEHA, insisted on the need to record and register the pain and agony of tsunami victims.
