TIRUCHI: A country bomb was allegedly lobbed at a police inspector by an accused when he was conducting vehicle checks on Pullambadi- Thirumanoor road last night. However, the bomb did not explode but damaged the windscreen of the police jeep. Police have cited `Pattarai' Suresh, Sridhar, Madhan, Martin and Saravanan as accused in the case. Sources said acting on information, the Mannachanallur police inspector, Kannan, was conducting vehicle checks last night to apprehend the accused involved in the murder case coming under the Thiruverambur police station limits here recently. `Pattarai' Suresh, police said, is one of the accused in the murder case. When the police officer tried to stop `Pattarai' Suresh and his accomplice who were coming on two motorcycles, Suresh allegedly lobbed a country bomb at the inspector. All the accused escaped in the two-wheelers. Cases have been registered against the accused under the Indian Explosive Substance Act. The Kallakudi police have registered a case.
