BANGALORE: Sports Hostel made it three-in-row in the State junior basketball championship when it defeated Viveknagar BC 62-37 in the final at Sree Kanteerava Stadium courts here on Friday. The seasoned outfit from Mysore was way ahead of its rival with quick passing and sharp shooting. Pivots Savita (21 points ) and Deepa (20) built up a strong lead for the champion with their consistent shooting while Rajeshwari chipped in with some nippy raids. The match looked open till the first session, with Sports Hostel leading by just nine points (30-21), but the Hostlelites opened up and bottled the rival defenders and the forwards later took charge with a flurry of baskets. Sports Hostel topped the table with three straight wins, while Viveknagar BC, with lone loss, finished runner-up. In the boys' section, Beagles took the top spot after a gap of eight years. Beagles posted a 65-47 victory over Jayangar SC in its final league tie and finished with an all win record. The final positions: Boys: 1. Beagles; 2. SAI, Dharwad; 3. Jayanagar SC; 4. Sports Hostel (Bangalore). Girls: 1. Sports Hostel, Mysore; 2. Viveknagar; 3. Beagles; 4. IBBC. The results: Boys' final: Beagles 65 (Puneet 26, Visweshwar Rao 20, Anirudh 16) bt JSC 47 (Krupesh 10, Kaushal 12). Third place: SAI, Dharwad bt Sports Hostel, Bangalore 45-33. Girls' final: Sports Hostel, Mysore 62 (Savita 21, Deepa 20, Rajeshwari 16) bt Viveknagar BC 37. Third place: Beagles bt IBBC 48-42.
