KOZHIKODE: : The Jammu and Kashmir Government will be the authority to take a decision on claims on ancestral property made by people returning to Kashmir under the new liberalised rules of entry from across the border. This was stated by the J & K Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, at a meet-the-press conference of Kozhikode Press Club on Friday. In answer to a question, he claimed that there were no differences between his party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Congress (I), which formed the ruling alliance in J and K, over the rehabilitation Bill. This Bill dealt with claims on ancestral property of people returning from across the border. The Mufti said the Government was the custodian of the land that had been left behind by those who crossed over at the time of partition. Some of them who had returned by the newly-introduced bus service between Muzzafarabad and Srinagar had already raised claims for return of their ancestral land. While it was true they would had a legitimate claim on land, certain procedural formalities would have to be completed before their claim was allowed.
