SALEM: The technical committee of the Office of the Commissioner of the Municipal administration has approved the Salem Corporation's ambitious Under Ground Drainage Project proposal in principle. The committee headed by the Superintending Engineer of Municipal Administration, R. Raghunathan, visited sites selected to set up Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) and pumping stations in the city. After a discussion with the Corporation officials, Mr. Raghunathan said the committee would report the issue to the Technical Standing Committee, which would then recommend the project for the approval of the Government. "The Rs. 196-crore project will be funded by the Tamil Nadu Urban Development Project - III," he added. "The first phase of the project will cover 50 wards. Pipelines to a length of 500 km. would be laid.
