Councillors level allegations against official

ERODE: Almost all the 35 Municipal councillors present at the Erode Municipal council meeting levelled allegations against the Town Planning Officer (TPO), Erode.

The session began with administering oath of secrecy to the newly-elect councillor from Ward 36, C. Ramasamay.

Then a senior AIADMK councillor, Kausalya Sundaram, said that her neighbour was building a house in violation of the Municipality-approved plan.

She said she had already represented the matter with the District Collector and the Municipal Commissioner.

She said the Town Planning Officer was not taking any action.

Supporting her views, the vice-chairman, N. Market Raja, said the officer was not sticking to rules and favouring rule-violators.

The DMK councillor, Mani, and others too levelled charges against the officer.

The Municipal chairman, Subramanian, asked the Municipal Commissioner to take action in this regard.

Wayside eateries

The DMK councillor, K. Palaniammal, said wayside eateries around the Municipal Central Bus Stand were dumping wastes into the drains.

The chairman said he had noticed it.

Some person was collecting money from them too, he said and asked the officials to remove all illegal eateries.
