EAMCET passes off smoothly

Staff Reporter

Attendance is much better than the previous year

ALL GEARED UP: Students appearing for EAMCET entering a test centre in Tirupati on Friday.

TIRUPATI: EAMCET-2005 was conducted in a smooth manner in all the eighteen centres in Tirupati. Not a single incident of malpractice or skirmish was reported.

Of the 5,880 candidates registered for engineering, 5,717 attended. Similarly, in the medical stream, 4,147 of the 4,267 registered candidates attended, while only 120 failed to appear.

Better attendance

According to N.C.Eswara Reddy, the regional coordinator and principal of SVU College of Engineering, the attendance was much better than previous year.

The candidates for the engineering stream were sighted waiting at the centres much ahead of the scheduled time. The medicine stream candidates too had to brave the sun to reach the centres.

The usually regular sight of candidates reaching the wrong centre and pleading for entry, too was missing this time as the coordinators were directed to permit a candidate to take the test even at a centre not allotted to him, if they were convinced that he could not reach his centre in time. It was a great relief that no great confusion occurred vis-a-vis similar-sounding names like SV Arts College, SVU College of Arts and Sciences and SVU College Arts block, as feared by the organisers.

In Kurnool, the exam was conducted at seven centres. A total of 3,176 students appeared for engineering test and 2,716 for medical stream. The revenue department posted an officer of the rank of MRO in each centre while the JNTU deputed two officials as observers.
