Seminar

Chennai Sai Sankara Matrimonials is holding a seminar on prevention of divorces at 7 (15/2) 9th Avenue, Ashok Nagar between 1.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. on May 1.

Ban order

An order regulating processions, demonstrations, fasts, meetings and assemblies within Greater Chennai for a period of 15 days was passed under section 41 of the Madras City Police Act. Starting from 12 noon on April 28 and ending at 12 noon on May 13, persons intending to hold meetings in public places must apply five days in advance for their requests to be processed.

Institute gesture

Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences donated materials for the Baby Care Centre run by Kalaiselvi Karunalaya. Thirty nine female infants are cared for at the centre. For details contact 26254956 or 26257779.

Bank division opened

Indian Overseas Bank opened its first specialised micro-finance division at its women entrepreneurs branch at Ethiraj College on Friday. It will provide finance to micro-finance institutions lending money to self-help groups. A.R. Nagappan, Executive Director of IOB inaugurated the division.

Revised train timings

The Southern Railway has announced changes in the running schedule of suburban trains.

Train number BA 1, Chennai Beach -Arakkonam, will leave from Moore Market Complex at 1.20 p.m. on May 2 instead of Chennai Beach station.

The following train in the Chennai Central and Gummidipoondi section will be fully/partially cancelled on Saturday and Sunday due to line block.

The following trains will be fully cancelled: BG 1 Beach -Gummidipoondi; GM 28 Gummidipoondi -Moore Market Complex; SPM 10 Sullurpetta - Moore Market Complex.

Eight partially cancelled trains between Ennore and Gummidipoondi will instead be operated between Moore Market Complex and Ennore railway stations. They are MG 13 MMC -Gummidipoondi; MG 15 MMC - Gummidipoondi; MG 17 MMC -Gummidipoondi; MG 19 MMC- Gummidipoondi; GM 18 Gummidipoondi - MMC; GM-22 Gummidipoondi - MMC, GM-24 Gummidipoondi - MMC and GM-26 Gummidipoondi - MMC.

Following trains will be partially cancelled between Sullurupetta and Ennore: MSP-7 MMC-Sullurupetta, MSP-9 MMC-Sullurupetta and SPM-8 Sullurupetta-MMC.

Robbery

Thieves broke into a house in Pallikaranai and made away with jewellery weighing 75 sovereigns on Thursday.

According to police, Saranappa Sundaram (62), of Deivasigamani Street in Pallikaranai, returned home on Thursday morning to find the door of the house broken and the valuables stolen. A complaint was lodged with Pallikaranai police.

In another house break-in reported in Oggiyam Thorappakkam, thieves took away a laptop, five sovereigns of jewellery and Rs. 5,000 in cash.
