HYDERABAD: Thirty families were rendered homeless after their huts went up in flames in a slum area at Somajiguda on Friday. The property destroyed in the fire was estimated at Rs. 2 lakhs. Luckily, there were no causalities as all the labourers had gone out for work along with their families. It was around 10.30 a.m when the fire broke out, the exact place where it originated yet to be ascertained. Within seconds, the fire spread across nearly 30 huts reducing to ashes whatever came its way. Three fire tenders from Musheerabad, Secunderabad and Punjagutta arrived at the spot and extinguished the flames. The Congress MLA, P. Janardhan Reddy, visited the scene and promised all possible help to the labourers. The authorities announced Rs. 2,250 and 10 kg rice as immediate relief to the victims. The former Minister K. Vijaya Rama Rao, also visited the scene.
