EVEN AS pickpocket cases in city buses remain unchecked, the police face a new challenge in the form of thefts at bus stations. In two days (on April 21 and April 22) six passengers fell prey to thieves at Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, Jubilee Bus Station and at a private bus bay. Within six days, they struck again at Dilsukhnagar bus station taking away Rs. 1 lakh from the bag of a passenger. The police are not sure if a single person or a specific gang is involved in these cases. Though offences at bus stations are reported now and then, spurt in such cases points the needle of suspicion to an organised gang. Of late, gangs from Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra are striking at will in the city relieving people of gold and cash in different way. The possibility of one such gang being responsible for thefts at bus stations cannot be ruled out, say the police.
