Chargesheeted Ministers: BJP denies charge of duplicity

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Bharatiya Janata Party president L.K. Advani on Saturday rebutted the criticism that his party was indulging in duplicity over the issue of ``chargesheeted'' Ministers.

``Any charges arising out of [participation in any political] movement have to be differentiated from the charges of corruption or criminal nature,'' Mr. Advani said, adding that the distinction was not merely for Ayodhya.

Talking to presspersons after attending a State convention of his party at Chromepet, near here, he recalled how several ministers were dropped during the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance regime when they faced such charges.

On Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's reported observation on the entry of new forces into public life, Mr. Advani said he did not agree with the view that greater participation of people in democracy had led to lowering of standards of probity in public life. ``This is a slur on the poorer sections of the population. However, I would like to see the full text of his speech.''

About the NDA ending its boycott of Parliament, he said that the situation would be reviewed on Monday.
