HYDERABAD: For the first time in the last five years, the results of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) took a downswing with only 72.41 per cent students clearing the examination as against 80.41 per cent last year. Pass percentage in the preceding three years was 75, 67.89 and 65.11. However, the Minister for School Education, N. Rajyalakshmi, who released the results here on Saturday, said it was no indication of falling standards but maintaining standards. She said girl students fared better this year recording a pass percentage of 72.87 as against 72.09 per cent of boys. Out of 8,08,927 students who appeared in the regular stream, 5,85,781 passed. Among private candidates, a 43.77 pass percentage was registered. West Godavari district recorded the highest pass percentage of 85.88 while Chittoor district secured the lowest of 49.25. Hyderabad district improved its position to 19th from 23rd last year registering 65.86 per cent. She said the marks sheets would be despatched to the candidates within 15 days. The Minister said that 1001 schools secured 100 per cent results, which consisted of 684 private schools, 227 Zilla Parishad schools, 15 Government schools and 52 Residential Schools. The supplementary examination will begin on May 26 and would continue till June 8. The Minister said since the time available was limited, failed candidates should appear for the supplementary examination without waiting for recounting results. The last date for remittance of fee to the heads of schools is May 16.
