BELLARY: The Bharatiya Janata Party leader K.S. Eshwarappa, MLA, has urged the Minister for Revenue, M.P. Prakash, to "spell out the truth with regard to land grabbing" as charged by the Janata Dal (Secular) President and former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda. "Being an advocate and the Minister concerned, the onus is on Mr. Prakash to inform the public whether the allegations made by Mr. Deve Gowda are true. He must also ensure that criminal cases are filed against those involved in land grabbing. If this is not done, then it only means that Mr. Prakash is hoodwinking people," Mr. Eshwarappa told presspersons here on Saturday. Mr. Eshwarappa, while recalling the statement of Mr. Deve Gowda that he had a list of people involved in land grabbing cases, urged Mr. Prakash to get all the details and reclaim the land.
Political stunt
Mr. Eshwarappa criticised Mr. Deve Gowda for organising the Daridra Narayana rally and termed it a political stunt. According to him, Mr. Deve Gowda, as the head of the party that is part of the coalition Government, could have got the land grabbing cases investigated instead of organising a rally on the issue. "I think that the rally was organised to divert the attention of the people towards the failure of the Government on all fronts," he said. Mr. Eshwarappa criticised the Government for not implementing the promises made to the people, especially with regard to the empowerment of women. He said that the State Government is only speaking of empowering women but not taking any steps or allocating funds for the purpose. The proposed Stree Shakti Bank is yet to become a reality. He urged Bhagirathi Marulasiddanagowda, Minister for Women and Child Development, to make efforts to get more funds for her department.
Special packages
Mr. Eshwarappa said that six teams comprising party leaders are touring different parts of the State to "expose the failures of the Government." Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, MLA, wanted the Government to stop announcing packages with an eye on the elections and instead implement the packages that have already been announced. Mr. Eshwarappa, Mr. Kageri, B. Sriramulu, MLA; the president of the district unit of the BJP, Janardhan Reddy; and the Mayor, G. Somashekar Reddy, participated in a convention organised to felicitate the gram panchayat members supported by the party.
