Rain disrupts Gujarat Day celebrations

Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD: At least two persons were killed and a dozen injured when rain accompanied by gusty winds lashed Bhavnagar on Friday evening. The State Government's preparations for celebrating the "Gujarat Foundation Day" on a grand scale were also disrupted.

While one person was electrocuted, another died in a wall collapse. At least five persons, all employees of an Ahmedabad-based private company, were injured when a huge tower being erected for a light and sound show as part of the Gujarat Day celebrations collapsed. The show is likely to be cancelled.

The authorities cancelled a cultural programme on Friday night. Some of the official programmes as preparatory to the main celebrations, however, went on as scheduled.
