National Commission for Child soon

Staff Reporter

Union Cabinet gives approval

TIRUCHI: The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government has planned to establish a National Commission for Child in the near future on the lines of the National Commission for Women.

The Union Cabinet has already given its approval for the formation of the commission, Minister of State for Human Resource Development Kanti Singh said here on Saturday.

The Minister, who was on her way to Pudukottai to attend a meeting organised by the Makkal Tamizh Desam (MTD), told the media here that the Bill would be introduced in the Parliament soon.

The Commission for Child would have a chairperson besides four to five members and would be focussing on child rights, child welfare, child abuse, etc.

A provision would be made in the Bill to constitute a Commission for the Child in every State, she added.

Bill against domestic violence

Another Bill on domestic violence against women would also be introduced in the Parliament in the due course.

The Centre, she said, had proposed to bring out certain amendments in the Hindu Marriage Law and Immoral Traffic Prevention Act.

Replying to a query, the Minister, who belongs to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) party, said that the Opposition was targeting her party leader and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and demanding his resignation.

She said even during the previous BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government there were several rail mishaps when Nitish Kumar was the Railway Minister.

Claiming that the public opinion in Bihar was still in favour of Lalu Prasad though the party not able to secure a majority in the Assembly elections, she said no party could form a government without the support of the RJD in Bihar.

Stating that the RJD didn't favour another election as it would be a huge expenditure, the Minister claimed that the RJD would form the government in Bihar very soon.
