Murder, fraud cases resolved in Tuticorin

Staff Reporter

TUTICORIN: : The cases of murder and fraud were resolved by different units of the police this week, said Sandeep Rai Rathore, Superintendent of Police.

Speaking to mediapersons on Saturday, he said Senthil Kumar, Ashok Kumar, and Malliraj, who stabbed Velusamy, a lorry owner, to death in the town on April 14, were secured by a crime team at Madathur on Saturday afternoon. Two knives were recovered from the accused, he added.

In another breakthrough, Mr. Rathore said two persons were arrested by the District Crime Branch on Saturday morning, on the charges of defrauding one A.J. Stalin (43), a resident of Fatima Nagar. The SP said David Ayyadurai and Dhanpal Jeyaraj, along with Mary Suba, took Rs.20 lakhs from the complainant in 2003 to procure an NOC ( noobjection certificate) from the Government to help him establish a teacher training school at Arasanoor.

Since they failed to `get' the NOC as per the schedule, Stalin demanded money back. The accused gave back only Rs 5 lakhs and refused to pay the remaining amount.

Based on a complaint lodged by Stalin, David Ayyadurai and Dhanpal Jeyaraj were arrested. Mary Suba is at large. The SP said that as part of efforts to maintain tranquility in the district, two persons, Poolu and A Arumugam were detained by the Collector, under the Goondas Act this week.
