Comfortable win for ICF

Sports Reporter

MANGALORE: Integral Coach Factory (ICF) from Chennai showed tremendous recovery. Having lost in straight sets to Hyderabad Sixes on Friday, the young side outclassed Dock Recreation Club of NMPT with some solid play in the Mangala Friends SC's Silver Jubilee all-India invitation floodlit volleyball tournament at the Urva Stores ground here today.

ICF cruised to a comfortable 25-21, 25-22, 25-21 victory with captain Sakthivel doing an exemplary job.

The bearded Jaishankar and the tall Senthil Shanmugam too exploited the chinks in DRC defence with great regularity.

DRC, who played with lots of passion on Friday, the matches which finally finished at 3 a.m., were a pale shadow this day and could hardly put a foot right. P.V. Sunil, a former international in DRC ranks was inconsistent while Shamji looked woefully off colour.

Hyderabad Sixes, a scratch combination of IOB (Chennai) and State Bank players won two crucial encounters.

Having routed ICf in its first outing, the Thulasi Reddy-led side rallied from the brink against Karnataka to win 19-25, 26-28, 25-19, 25-20, 15-12 in 83 minutes.

Indian Bank from Chennai, fielding a whole lot of ageing stars including Manoharan and Muthuraj, had it in them to score a thrilling 25-23, 23-25, 2-25, 31-29, 15-11 win over DRC.

The match had its moments and even threatened a walkout by the local DRC side after a referee's decision went against them. After 20 minutes of break in play, the match resumed but the local side were just not in the game thereafter.

The results: ICF bt DRC 25-21, 25-22, 25-21; Hyderabad Sixes bt ICF 25-21, 25-20, 25-16; DRC bt Karnataka 25-22, 25-19, 25-17; Indian Bank bt DRC 25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 31-29, 15-11; Hyderabad Sixes bt Karnataka 19-25, 26-28, 25-19, 25-20, 15-12.
