Kuznetsova ends Clijsters' winning streak

OEIRAS (PORTUGAL): Spain's Tommy Robredo beat top ranked Carlos Moya 6-3, 3-0 on Saturday and secured a place in the Estoril Open final on Sunday. Moya retired with a shoulder injury.

Robredo, a wild card entrant, dominated his semifinal against countryman Moya, who complained of shoulder pains and received attention from a physiotherapist in the first set.

``It's always sad to play and win against a colleague who is injured,'' Robredo said. ``Tomorrow, it's my birthday and I would like get a victory.''

Robredo will play the winner of the semifinal between second-seeded Gaston Gaudio of Argentina and Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

In the women's tournament final, fourth-seeded Na Li of China will play Czech Republic qualifier Lucie Safarova.

Li thrashed second-seeded Dinara Safina of Russia 6-1, 6-1, while Safarova eliminated third-seeded Gisela Dulko of Argentina 7-6, 3-0 to set up the final on Sunday.

Safina, sister of Marat Safin, made seven double faults as Li triumphed in just over an hour.

Pavel downs Haas

In Munich, Romania's Andrei Pavel needed three hours and a broken racquet to reach the BMW Open final with a 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-4 win over Tommy Haas.

Haas warded off three match points and charged back several times during the match, which had 5,900 spectators on their feet at times.

The Romanian, reaching his first final in two years, will face the winner of the clash between top-seeded David Nalbandian and Finnish qualifier Jarkko Nieminen.

Trailing 4-2 in the final set, Haas slammed his racquet against the net during the following hard-fought game. He hit a metal ATP sign, breaking his racquet.

That automatically cost Haas the point and game.

Kuznetsova in final

In Warsaw, Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova broke Kim Clijsters' 17-match winning streak on Saturday, beating the seventh-seeded Belgian 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 to reach the final of the J&S Cup.

Kuznetsova, seeded second, will face either Belgium's Justine Henin-Hardenne or Ana Ivanovic of Serbia-Montenegro in Sunday's final.

Since returning to action in February after missing much of the 2004 season with a serious left wrist injury, Clijsters has won back-to-back titles in Indian Wells and Miami.

Her only defeat came during her comeback tournament, when she fell in the Antwerp quarterfinals to Venus Williams.

And she had plenty of opportunities to extend her winning run, only giving up her fight after holding off four match points.

Kuznetsova's big forehand eventually gave her the slightest edge, but it was unreliable in the early stages and that allowed the more consistent Clijsters to recover from dropping the first two games, winning the next six to take the set.

Kuznetsova reduced her errors in the second set, allowing her to break for 2-0 and hold off a break point in the next game before breaking again for the set.

Clijsters earned the better chances in the deciding set, breaking to lead 2-1 when Kuznetsova double-faulted and then made a backhand error.

But the Belgian then failed to take advantage of three game points and dropped her serve when she netted a weak backhand.

Kuznetsova produced one of the best points of the match to break again with a blistering winner down the line.

The results:

At Oeiras (Estoril Open): Men: Semifinals: Tommy Robredo bt Carlos Moya 6-3, 3-0 (retired).

Quarterfinals: Carlos Moya bt Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-4, 6-2; Guillermo Garcia-Lopez bt Juan Antonio Marin 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.

Women: Semifinals: Na Li bt Dinara Safina 6-1, 6-1; Lucie Safarova bt Gisela Dulko 7-6, 6-0.
