Theatre workshop for children begins on May 6

KOTTAYAM: Nireeksha, a women's theatre group for research and

performance, in cooperation with National School of Drama's (NSD) Regional Resource Centre at Bangalore, will organise a month-long children's theatre workshop here from May 6.

Speaking to mediapersons here today, Sujathan, artist and general convener of the programme, said the workshop had been organised with the objective of introducing children to modern theatre techniques.

The programme will provide them a comprehensive overview of theatre; it will include classes in acting, direction, music, light and set designing, property and costume making, make up and mask-making. The highlight of the workshop will be a play produced by participants at the end of the workshop. The dancer and theatre personality Maya Krishna Rao, member of the faculty at NSD, will be the director of play production. Twenty children in the age group of 10-14 will participate in play production; while ten will be included as observers. There will be no registration fee for participation in the workshop. The students will be provided free food and accommodation.
