KURNOOL: The local MLA, M.A. Gafoor, called for societal pressure on the parents to send the children to school. Addressing a meeting in connection with the Anti Child Labour Day here on Saturday, he said parents should not consider children as personal property but as wealth of the society. The society had greater role than parents, he said. He said Kurnool district topped the State after Mahabubnagar in having the largest number of child workers. Enrolment in schools be given priority to check the child labour problem, he said. The Collector, Vikas Raj, said one agency was selected in each mandal to channelise all resources from different institutions for better result. He said the child labour rehabilitation centres enrolled 4,500 children and Residential Bridge schools 6,000. The district was estimated to have 70,000 child workers.
